Adept Reforging is a way to improve the power of ENM material crafted armor sets through a series of trials.

Overview

Adeptus (Rabao J-6, across from the AH) offers the quest Adept Reforging to eligible jobs level 65+ of any account type. To begin the quest, speak to Adeptus as the job whose job-specific-equipment you would like to augment. You do not yet need to have that equipment item in your inventory to begin.

To complete the quest, you must defeat a list of enemies from across Vana'diel, then defeat three notorious monsters. Finally, trade the armor piece along with a specific crafting material to Adeptus to upgrade the armor with a powerful augment.

The quest is repeatable once every JST Midnight. You can upgrade normal-quality armor a maximum of two times, and high-quality armor three times. The sections below include specifics on each tier of augments and the requirements for your chosen armor piece.

Additional Details

  • You can complete the kill trials in any order, and do not need to return to Adeptus between each one (though he will provide dialogue pertaining to the next objective if you do). But you do have to return to Adeptus before starting the NMs section, and you must fight those NMs in order.
  • Players must own the armor they wish to augment. There is no armor rewarded to you for doing trials.
  • Players may cancel their current trial at any time by using the Book of Mastery next to Adeptus.
  • Upgrading normal quality armor requires trading a specific material which will be consumed in the upgrade. Normal quality armor can be upgraded two times (Max: Tier 2).
  • Upgrading high quality armor requires a normal quality version and the specific material, which will both be consumed in the upgrade. High quality armor can be upgraded three times (Max: Tier 3).
    • This means if you perform all three augment trials on a high-quality piece from the start, you will need to sacrifice one normal-quality item at the end of each trial (for a total of three).
  • You can transfer augments from a normal-quality to an unaugmented(*see note below) high-quality version of the armor. To do this, trade both of them to the Book of Mastery next to Adeptus before you start the third trial. The normal-quality item will be consumed. By augmenting a NQ item to tier 2, transferring those augments to a HQ, and then completing the final trial, you will only need to sacrifice two normal-quality items instead of three.
    • You can technically transfer to an already-augmented HQ item, but you will lose progress. Adeptus gives a somewhat confusing warning about this transfer process. You should only perform the transfer once using a tier-2 NQ piece and an unaugmented HQ armor piece. Any augments you might already have on your high-quality armor will be erased and replaced with the NQ's. If you end up losing progress due to confusion around augment transfers, take screenshots and open a detailed #gm-support ticket on the CE discord, and a GM might be able to assist you.

Walkthrough
  • Shoryo - As this is a level 30 fight, make use of your Destrier Beret and Chocobo Shirt for the regen and accuracy bonuses. You will not be able to use trusts during the fight, but before you begin, summon support alter egos such as Kupipi, Koru-Moru, Joachim, and Qultada, and fight a few of the enemies nearby so that your trusts cast protect, haste, phalanx, etc. on you. These buffs will remain even after your trusts are removed when you summon the NM. Bring a Hi-Potion +1 (which tends to be cheaper than regular Hi-Potion on AH) if you think you need it, but this is a very easy fight with the above preparations.
  • Doji - This NM is a demon, so it is susceptible to frequent intimidation if you use Warding Circle. This fight is a little tougher than the previous one, but if you go into the fight with buffs from your trusts and have a potion and Meikyo Shisui ready for emergencies, you should be fine. Level 50 means you can use Soboro Sukehiro, but gkt weaponskills are lacking at this level; you might also consider using a polearm so you have access to Penta Thrust (assuming you have a few merits in polearm skill; otherwise you wouldn't get that WS until 51).
  • Desert Hare - You can use trusts in this fight, so attack a few mobs in the area to gain TP and buffs and then go for it. At level 75 with decent gear, this is an easy fight. You can always bring some friends along in place of trusts if you are worried about your chances.
