In Hindu legend, Narisimha was the 4th avatar of Vishnu. Vishnu appeared in this form to fight Hiranyakashipu, Hiranyaksha's brother, who was slain by Vishnu when he was manifested in his third state. Narasimha was able to slay Hiranyakashipu because he was only a Partial God.
