* In Ainu folklore, Atkorkamuy is a gigantic octopus god which resides in Hokkaido’s Uchiura Bay. The name means "string holding God," referring to its tentacles. When it extends its legs, it can stretch out over one hectare in area. It is said to be large enough that it can swallow boats and even whales in a single gulp.
